AI-aided Data Analysis and Simulation of German Emergency Medical Services

Emergency medical services (EMS) require quick decisions, as life and death are at stake. Artificial intelligence is now to make German EMS fit for the future. The aim is to use intelligent technologies to provide EMS with more digital support for their future operations. 

In the new AI-Rescue research project, an interdisciplinary team of researchers is currently preparing a feasibility study using the example of the "Model Region Health Lausitz".  We, as Hasso Plattner Institute, contribute to the project with our expertise in digital health and design thinking. Together with subject matter experts, we produce promising application scenarios for intelligent technologies in EMS. 

Our chair, Digital Health – Connected Healthcare, has extensive expertise in collecting and analysing health-related data from daily life; and linking it to clinical data. In AI-Rescue, we are researching how mobile sensor technology can be used in emergency situations to monitor critical health conditions and to collect important data for further treatment in the hospital.

In addition to the Hasso Plattner Institute, the collaborative partners in the project are the Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU), the Björn Steiger Foundation and the Brandenburg Institute for Society and Security (BIGS). The project was funded by the German Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure.
