Abstract

In recent years, there has been a growing recognition of the importance of gender diversity in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). While progress has been made towards greater representation of women in these fields, there is still a long way to go. Innovation is the cornerstone of any modern economy, and Germany is no exception. As a leader in technological advancement, it is crucial for Germany to foster an environment that encourages the participation of all members of society, regardless of gender. This is particularly important in the STEM fields, where women have historically been underrepresented.

Bringing more women into STEM fields is not only a matter of social justice, it is also a matter of economic necessity. Studies have shown that diverse teams are more innovative and creative, leading to better problem-solving and decision-making. Furthermore, promoting gender diversity in STEM fields can help to address some of the most pressing challenges facing society today, from climate change to healthcare. Women bring unique perspectives and experiences to these fields, allowing for a more comprehensive and holistic approach to problem-solving. It is time to unlock the full potential of women in STEM and unleash a new era of innovation in Germany.

Christine Regitz is Vice President and Head of SAP Women In Tech. After studying economics and physics at the University of Saarland and Universita Degli Studi Bari (Italy), she started her career as a consultant at IDS Prof. Scheer and in 1994 she moved on to DACOS Software, which was acquired by SAP. After a brief period in consulting, Christine transferred to the development department of SAP, where she has held various positions and responsibilities. Since 2020 she has been leading the global team ‘SAP Women in Tech’ in the Office of the CEO. Since 2015 she is a member of the supervisory board of SAP SE and, in particular, in the committees for Finance & Investment, Personnel and Governance as well as Technology & Strategy, where she also serves as a deputy chairperson. Christine is co-founder of the Business Women’s Network at SAP and is a certified business coach and mediator. In her honorary commitment, she is president of the German Informatics Society (Gesellschaft für Informatik - GI), a member of the Advisory Board of the Leibniz Center for Informatics (Schloss Dagstuhl), a member of the German Council for Scientific Information Infrastructures and sits on the board of trustees of the Steinbeis Foundation and of the Deutsche Museum in Munich.
