Opening Ceremony

28 October 2019

On this occasion, numerous events will take place on the Potsdam-Babelsberg campus from the 28 - 30 October, 2019. Kicking off the event series is the opening ceremony on October 28, 2019, where eminent personalities from the fields of politics, science, and culture, who have accompanied the HPI over the past 20 years, are expected to attend.

The development of the institute in two decades is remarkable.

We will also celebrate our anniversary with colleagues from our research branches in, for example, the US, China, and South Africa. Together, we will not only take a look back at the past but also into the future. The current expansion of the institute's content will be reflected in the ceremony as well as in the exhibit and conference that accompany the event.

Conference: Designing Digital Transformation

29 - 30 October 2019

Fifty years ago, four computers at the universities of Stanford, Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, and Utah in the USA were connected to form the ARPANET. This event marked the birth of the Internet, which has since spread rapidly across the globe. The anniversary year of the Internet is reason enough to engage in discussions with the pioneers of the Internet, successful digital entrepreneurs, representatives of the digital society, and scientists about how the Internet came about, what lessons can be learned for further developments and what values an "Internet society" should follow.

Speakers for the Conference:

We are looking forward to announcing the following selection of speakers:

•   Warren East, CEO Rolls Royce PLC
•   Dr. Jürgen Müller, CTO SAP SE
•   Dr. Mathias Döpfner, CEO Axel Springer SE
•   Prof. Dr. Christiane Woopen, Chairman of the European Ethics Council

Full agenda (German only)

The conference will be an opportunity to discuss the risks and new challenges that accompany the digital transformation and the values that an “Internet society” should seek to follow.

We are looking forward to seeing you in Potsdam in October!

Celebrating 10 Years of HPI Academy

In the early years, companies involved in student projects on the HPI campus quickly discovered the excitement of the topics, which are researched and taught at the Hasso Plattner Institute. The wish soon grew among them to not only accompany student projects but to drive innovation processes in their own companies. This customer wish was the initial spark for the foundation of the Hasso-Plattner-Institute Academy (HPI Academy) on March 20, 2009.

The HPI Academy has a broad portfolio in the areas of design thinking, IT, and digitization.
Every year, around 3,000 professionals come to the HPI Academy for further training and to be inspired by the atmosphere on campus.

Alumni Event

30 October 2019

Former students, researchers, and teachers belong to the HPI family. Permanent contacts and mutual help are important to us so that we can optimally develop our potential together.

With the 20th anniversary of the HPI, we are also celebrating our alumni, who number nearly 1,500. On the occasion of our anniversary, we warmly invite our alumni to return to their institute and reunite with old contacts and establish new networks. On October 30, 2019, we are offering HPI alumni an half-day program with guest lectures, break-out sessions startup fair and meetups on current research topics and fields of work that HPI graduates are involved in.

In the evening, we’re hosting a networking event and party for HPI alumni, professors, and staff to discuss the results of the day and to build attendees’ networks further.
