International academic careers

[Translate to Englisch:] HPI Alumna Alexandra Ion und Prof. Patrick Baudisch

Prof. Alexandra Ion joined the Hasso Plattner Institute as a PhD student and successfully completed her PhD on "Metamaterial Devices" in 2019. This was followed by several months as a Postdoc at ETH Zürich. Since January 2021, she has been an Assistant Professor at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, USA.

 

International career after launching a start-up

[Translate to Englisch:] HPI Alumni Startup Lana Labs

Together with Karina Buschsieweke, the two HPI alumni Dr. Thomas Baier and Dr. Rami-Habib Eid-Sabbagh founded Lana Labs in April 2016. Lana Labs GmbH develops LANA, the first software for the automated target-performance comparison of business processes, with which fact-based savings and optimization potentials can be localized quickly, and compliance deviations can be uncovered. In the summer of 2021, Lana Labs was acquired by the American platform operator Appian.

 

International career in industry

[Translate to Englisch:] HPI Alumnus Dr. Alexander Schmidt

Dr. Alexander Schmidt worked as a research assistant at the department "Operating Systems and Middleware" of Prof. Andreas Polze and received his PhD there in 2011. After a twelve-week internship at Microsoft's corporate headquarters in Seattle, he was offered the prospect of an employment contract for the time after his doctorate. Today, he is a lead developer in Micosoft's Cloud OS Infrastructure team, responsible for Windows Server Update Services.
