At https://sec.hpi.de/ilc an individual check can be made of whether your identity data is freely available on the net and, therefore, could be at risk of misuse by third parties. In the meantime, HPI security researchers have made it possible to compare user data with over 2 billion stolen pieces of identity data that are freely available to the public on the Internet.

During the past two years, a total of 2.8 million users have already used the service of the Identity Leak Checker to check their data’s security. Nearly one out of ten users learned that their email address, in connection with other personal data, was freely accessible on the Internet.
